The late Dorcas Edziyie Kerson, was born on 16th May 1955, at Winneba, Ghana, where her maternal grandmother was domiciled. She was the fourth of eight children born to the late Albert Kweku Afful a Pharmacist, and late Emma Afful, a business woman from the Tsekua Anona Ebusua of Sekondi and Effiekesim Kona Ebiradze Ebusua of Elmina respectively.

Dorcas started her basic education at the AgonaSwedru Roman Catholic Primary School in 1960. She demonstrated promising aptitude in her early years and wrote the Common Entrance Examination in 1969, gaining admission to The Ghana National College, Cape Coast, for her Secondary Education. She successfully completed her secondary education in 1974. Dorcas later enrolled for tertiary study at Accra Polytechnic, (now Accra Technical University) to pursue a science Laboratory Technician course, which she successfully completed in 1976.

After graduation she gained employment as a Laboratory Technician with the University of Ghana, Legon, where she worked for a number of years. Her working life University of Ghana as truncated by marriage and her travel aboard.
Dorcas had a sweet and pleasant personality. She always had the demeanour of a soft-spoken, gentle and polite lady. Little wonder that she caught the attention of a young tutor at the Polytecnic, named Joe Kerson, while studying there. Joe started inviting Dorcas to Christian Fellowship events and to church at The Calvary Baptist Church, Accra, although she was an Anglican.​
Then Joe was offered an opportunity to study in the UK in 1978, he fast tracked his commitment to their relationship by asking for the hand of Dorcas in marriage, before leaving the shores of Ghana. This opened the door for Dorcas’ first brief visit to the UK in August, 1979, but she had to return to her job shortly after.

However, in 1982 Dorcas resigned from her job to join Joe permanently in the UK. Their marriage flourished and blossomed and they were blessed with three wonderful children: Brenda, Jonathan and Daniella.​
Whilst in the UK, Dorcas continued her passion for science and education working as a Science Laboratory Technician with Raynes Park High School. She developed her learning through in-house training programmes, workshops and courses and remained at the school for 25 years, retiring in 2014.

Dorcas was not only passionate about her professional work but was also a loving wife to the late Pastor Joe Kerson, a supportive mother to their three children and doting grandmother to her six grandchildren.​
Dorcas lived a very simple but impactful life, which she dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ. By her faith she and her family lived and dwelt peaceable with their colleagues, friends, neighbours and acquaintances. Her life was bereft of malice, hatred, quarrels and squabbles.

Her loving qualities extended far beyond her immediate family but also her church family. She was one of the founding members of the Ghanaian Fellowship at Kensington Temple in London. Furthermore, she went on to support and lead a church cell group from Kensington Temple and later planted a satellite church, Immanuel Charismatic Church (ICC) with the late Pastor Joe Kerson.
She was and has been a great spiritual mother to many friends and family and continued to worship at Oasis Church, in Mitcham.

In early 2021, the love of Dorcas’ life, Joe, was snatched away by death in a very untimely manner. Dorcas, however, soldiered on and kept the faith. No one thought for a moment that when she said, “good bye, we’ll talk again tomorrow”, that her tomorrow was never to come, for she was called to eternity glory peacefully, on the during the night of 2nd April, 2025.
